Laws Against Rape in Nigeria

The good book says, “where there is no law, there is no offence” .  In criminal law, there is a principle called Nullum crimen sine lege (Latin for "no crime without law."). It says that a person cannot or should not face criminal punishment except for an act that is criminalized by law before he/she committed it (okay, I promise this is the only legal jargon you’ll see in this article).  Amidst growing and disturbing reports of rape and other sexual and gender-based violence, especially against women and children in Nigeria, there is also growing interest in provisions of the law that provide protection to women and victims of gender-based violence. In contribution to the global awareness campaign for the protection of women from gender-based violence, it is an asset to be knowledgeable on the existing legal framework for protecting the rights of victims and survivors in search of justice. This article also serves as a warning to potential offenders, of the punishment tha...

A gift is worth a thousand wishes

A gift is worth a thousand wishes . Beyond sending messages & offering prayers to people in your circle on their birthdays, go a step further and get them a gift - no matter how small.  Such gestures create priceless impressions in their hearts that could last a lifetime. This is inspired by a personal experience. The only guy who got me a gift (worth less than 2k) on my birthday has gotten 84k worth of business patronage from me barely 3 weeks after (mostly through referrals). His name just comes to mind naturally whenever someone ask me where to get an IT device. The Bible attests to this - "Giving a gift can open doors; it gives access to important people. Prov. 18:16".

13,149 days on Earth with Gratitude.

13,149 Days on Earth with Gratitude. Birthdays give us the opportunity to reflect on life's journey. For the scriptures admonishes us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom. As I cross the line to my late 30s today, I want to express gratitude to those God placed in strategic junctions of my life to help me. I'm convinced that the greatest blessing a young man can have in this life is to have people, orchestrated by divinity, intervene at strategic junctions of his journey through life. To my mum, thank you for being my gateway to this beautiful world, for your many sacrifices, and the priceless values you instilled in me. To my dad (late but alive in my heart) thank you for showing me what it takes to be a man. You believed in my dreams. You did everything to give me a good education. I'm eternally grateful. To my elder sister,  Mercy Dania. You became a defcto mother to me from day one. You placed your university education on hold so you can sponso...

A Case for the Establishment of a Special Army for Biological Warfare in Nigeria.

A Case for the Establishment of a Special Army for Biological Warfare in Nigeria. G.V. Dania, O.M. Ogedoh. vincentdania@live.com. omaojorogedoh@nda.edu.ng Nothing in recent history has brought the world to her knees like the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The threat posed by a disease outbreak of this proportion makes any threat from chemical, cyber or nuclear warfare fade in comparison. Even the United States of America with all its artillery and technological know-how has been humbled by a single virus that is smaller than 1/10th the size of a bullet. While there are contentions as to how the virus emerged, one thing is certain; disease outbreaks of this nature pose existential threats to humanity, and how nations prepare to respond to similar outbreaks in the future will make all the difference. This article will make a case for the establishment of a Special Army for Biological Warfare (SABW) in Nigeria and suggest ways the establishment can defend Nigerians aga...

Why WHO Should Not Discourage People from Trying New Medications to Combat COVID-19.

Why WHO Should Not Discourage People from Trying New Medications to Combat COVID-19. I will like to express my opinion on the awareness campaign of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) discouraging people from using local medications and drug mixtures to combat the coronavirus pandemic on the basis that there is no known scientific evidence for such mixtures or drugs to cure or prevent people from contracting the virus. I understand the advice that we should follow the instructions of health authorities in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, but in my opinion, this particular advice should be given with exemptions. According to WHO and other health authorities, the COVID-19 virus is novel, meaning it is a new strain in the Coronavirus family that the scientific community does not know much about. So, if the scientific community does not know much about the novel virus, and it takes quite some time for science to establish evidence, wh...
