There's a character in the Bible that I find truly inspiring, especially as a baby entrepreneur who has stumbled a few times and as a man who has seen his beloved home crumble.
She's the embodiment of resilience and her story shows us what it means to keep getting back up and never giving up on life.
She's known simply as the Samaritan woman, and her story is recorded in John 4:7. The author didn't bother to give her a name, but that doesn't make her story any less remarkable.
Now, this woman's story is quite unique, as it wasn't written at the end of her life on earth, unlike most historical figures.
At the time her story was written, she was in her sixth relationship. That's right, folks, she had been married five times and was preparing for number six. Not boyfriends, not fiances, not "side hens" – husbands! Five of them! And all in one lifetime!
Now, I know what you're thinking, "Not my portion in Jesus' name!" Amen to that, my friend!
But seriously, who wants that kind of luck? Life can be cruel and chooses its victims at random.
The author didn't tell us what happened to her first five husbands, and we can only guess. But one thing's for sure, Christ wouldn't have referred to them as her husbands if they broke up because of divorce – he had already condemned divorce in one of his sermons.
Despite whatever led to the breakdown of her marriages, the Samaritan woman didn't give up on love.
She didn't write all men off as scum like some "slay queens" might do today.
Instead, she put each experience behind her, focused on what she could control, and dared to try again.
She had faith that there was a good man out there for her, and she was determined to keep taking chances until she found him.
Now that's resilience.
